Welcome to the 24th Milan No-Till Field Day! The Milan No-Till Field Day is the nation’s largest field day devoted to no-tillage crop production techniques. We appreciate your interest and hope that you will learn techniques for increasing production, reducing expenses, improving marketing skills or increasing the efficiency of your crop production operation.
Visitors from around the world come to Milan on the fourth Thursday in July to learn the latest about no-tillage crop production techniques. Attendance at the 2004 field day included 3964 visitors from 79 of Tennessee’s counties, 15 states, and 2 international countries. We received registration cards from 62% of our visitors.
Of these, 949 identified themselves as farmers and they reported that they farmed 659,433 acres with no-till and 267,423 acres with conventional tillage practices. Tennessee farmers in attendance reported 492,477 acres that were no-tilled (29.3% of no-tilled acres in Tennessee) and 191,341 acres of conventional tillage. In summary, the farmers who registered represented 23.7% of the total acreage in Tennessee of the five major row crops (corn, cotton, soybeans, sorghum and wheat).
We sincerely appreciate the support of the Milan community and all of their assistance with making this event a success since 1981. Numerous community events and activities are held in conjunction with the field day and these are described near the end of the program. The final pages of the program describe the amenities available during the activities and include a map of the field day site.
